READ THE BOOKS!
The first thing any shade tree mechanic needs to do is study the car.
There are several great books that cover repairs and history for the Vw Rabbit.
The number one book I recommend is "How To Keep Your Rabbit Alive, a step
by step guide for the complete idiot" This book is out of print, but shows up on
E-bay from time to time.
The other must have book is the Bentley repair manual, It is harder for the novice
to understand, but  has the wiring diagrams and other info the 'Idiots Guide"
doesn't.
There are many other books available from Chilton, Hayes and others, as well as
old dealer booklets, and consumer reports reviews. Almost all of these turn up on
E-bay as well.
SO GET READING!
Luke...Use the Net... Let it be your guide.
Yup that's right the second best place to find info is on the net. Google has a
complete archive of the newsgroups. Think of this as a book of questions and
answers. Simply ask a question like - headlights not working -
And Google gives you a list of every conversation ever recorded on the subject.
Pretty cool huh?
Also Web sites that focus on the Vw Rabbit like this one can lead you to a
cure. So poke around, your problem may have already been solved.
